Northumbria Basketry Group came into existence ten years and the group is celebrating this milestone with a Tenth Birthday Touring Exhibition and Celebration. They are delighted that the Durham Dales Centre is their first venue and you will be able to meet them there from Saturday 29th April to Monday 1st May, 10.30am to 4.00pm.
In addition to displaying a wide variety of baskets, sculptures and other items, all created by their members using willow and other materials, the group will be running daily drop-in willow-weaving taster sessions. There will also be workshops (pre-booking needed) for anyone who would like to spend a morning or an afternoon weaving with willow.

A newly-published book, ‘The Fishing Baskets of Northumberland’, is to be launched during the tour. This will be available to buy during the exhibition, along with a selection of other basketry items.

The group is also researching traditional British baskets and warmly invites anyone who has baskets that have belonged to family members for a long time to bring them to the event to be photographed.
